Magic Johnson says Lonzo Ball 'has greatness written all over him'

26 June 2017

It happened. Lonzo Ball was selected by his hometown Los Angeles Lakers as the second overall pick in last night's 2017 NBA Draft.

Lonzo Ball (UCLA) is introduced by NBA commissioner Adam Silver as the number two overall pick to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft at Barclays Center. I thought it was a typo or a fake account; there was no real reason to trade Russell, let alone for the package we got back for him.

"All of us know that he has the ability to make other players around him better".

Despite the bluster associated with LaVar Ball, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said spending time with the Ball family at their home helped him to appreciate the patriarch.

The Lakers made a sneaky good trade late in the draft, moving down two spots from the No. 28 and acquiring a second round pick in the process.

Turkey rejects calls to close Qatar military base
Since the crisis began earlier this month, Turkey has deployed troops to Qatar where they are training Qatari forces. He says the supporting Kuwait's efforts to mediate.

"To be a Pelican, and to play with wonderful guys like Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, it's going to be awesome", Jackson said. His goofy personality had many questioning whether he was right for a leadership role. The Timberwolves went 31-51 in a disappointing first-year campaign under coach Tom Thibodeau and have the NBA's longest playoff drought, having not made the postseason since 2003-04. "That's why we win, right?" the nine-time NBA Finals participant continued to hold court in front of an amoeba like mass of reporters.

Johnson even referenced the 1980s Showtime Lakers - a team he led - when talking about the ball movement that he hopes Ball will bring to the Lakers.

But if the Lakers are disappointed in free agency again, they'll still have Ball - and his father, LaVar, who had promised for years that his son would end up with the Lakers. What he knew about Magic Johnson, a superstar who last played in the National Basketball Association a year before he was born, came from the stories his father, LaVar, told and what he could glean from the grainy footage of games that replayed on cable television. "I said, OK, we've got our man now". Whatever character flaws that Russell had during his time as Laker should not change the fact that he was the best player on the team a year ago. It will be the first Major League Baseball game he's attended. However, that factor obviously did not deter the Lakers from drafting Lonzo.

"When you have this much cap space, we're going to be major players next summer", Johnson said.

Sounds to me like a little humility - as well as some solid work skills and workouts - might be in order before you proclaim your son as the NEXT BIG THING.
