Ten minutes later, the district followed with more information: "To clarify, mountain schools include Evergreen High, Evergreen Middle, Conifer High, West Jeff Middle, West Jeff Elementary, Bergens, Wilmot Elementary, Marshdale Elementary, Elk Creek Elementary, Ralston Elementary, Rocky Mountain Academy, Parmalee Elementary".

"Last night Sol Pais traveled here to Colorado and she made threats to commit an act of violence in this area, she is armed and considered unsafe", Mike Taplin of Jefferson County Sheriff's Office told local media.

The sheriff's Twitter post, which included two photos of Pais, said she was dressed in a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots.

The lockdowns come just days before the 20th anniversary of a mass shooting at the school that killed 12 students and a teacher. All after-school activities will go on as scheduled, except for at Columbine High School, where all after-school activities have been canceled. But a sheriff's office spokesman, Mike Taplin, said the anniversary of the Columbine mass shooting was not a "direct" factor.

After the threat was made public, all Jefferson County schools were placed on lockout status.

"We will have extra safety and security staff on site at all schools affected", Jefferson County Public Schools said.

They didn't say where she traveled from.

Phillips said the local Federal Bureau of Investigation were notified by the FBI's Miami office that Pais made verbal threats and had travelled to Colorado.

It also represented the latest instance of Congress's challenging Trump's decisions as commander in chief. In the Senate the vote was 54 to 46, with seven Republicans voting with Democrats.

All schools in the Denver area were urged to tighten security because the threat was deemed "credible and general", said Patricia Billinger, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Public Safety. "She is armed and considered unsafe", said Mike Taplin with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, CBS Denver reported.

The undisclosed threats led Columbine and several other high schools outside Denver to lock their doors for almost three hours.

Twenty years ago this month Columbine High School in Colorado became the scene of one of the worst schootings in history.

In a lockout, exterior doors are locked, and school continues as normal.

About a dozen Denver area districts called off classes for Wednesday, according to school district websites and media accounts. "We want our schools to be a safe place for kids to learn".

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine is Saturday.

"All facilities and programs are closed for the day - no employees are to report", Jefferson County Public Schools posted on Twitter, saying they made the decision "in collaboration with other Denver-metro area school districts". There was no immediate indication whether Tuesday's lockdown has any connection to the anniversary.
