Kings officially hire Luke Walton, just days after his Lakers tenure ended

The last time Kings general manager Vlade Divac conducted a coaching search, it spanned weeks, with more than 10 candidates drawing interviews. Terms of Walton's contract with the Kings were not revealed. Now, news surfaced noting that Walton has been made the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. Walton will be introduced at a press conference later Monday. "This year was a good season but I think we could do more, especially after All-Star break". Walton's split with the Lakers came just three days after Magic Johnson stepped down as the president of basketball operations of the organization.

Sam Amick of The Athletic was the first to report the deal, and NBC Sports California confirmed the details with a league source.

Howard joined coach Erik Spoelstra's staff in Miami after retiring as a player after 19 seasons in 2013.

Following Walton's departure from the Lakers, Kerr shared his thoughts on his former understudy.

Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975, announced in 2011 that he had formed the privately funded Stratolaunch. The world's largest aircraft, developed by aerospace venture Stratolaunch , completed its first flight test on Saturday.

"There's a great young core down there".

Walton, whose departure from the Lakers was announced on Friday, was rapidly identified by Sacramento as their preferred successor to Dave Joerger, who was sacked last Thursday.

"After evaluating the season, I determined that we need to move in a different direction in order to take us to the next level", Divac said in a statement. "We have to play that way".

That performance helped him get the job with the Lakers but he was unable to duplicate that success with a roster with far less talent during his first two years and then again this year, even with James on board. In fact, since moving to Sacramento before the 1985-86 season, the only winning seasons for the Kings came in Adelman's eight years at the helm, highlighted by a trip to the Western Conference final in 2002. He is the 10th coach since Rick Adelman left the post after eight years at the helm following the 2005-06 season.
