Steve Smith & David Warner Recalled, Peter Handscomb and Josh Hazlewood Miss Out

It is the first call-up for the former captain and his deputy since the expiry late last month of year-long bans for their part in the "sandpapergate" scandal in Cape Town that rocked cricket. The duo is now playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) respectively.

Both grabbed the opportunity and have been in good touch, particularly the bombastic Warner who has made a blistering return.

Shaun Marsh, left, has been included in Australia's World Cup squad, but brother Mitch has missed out and loses his national contract.

Handscomb has averaged 43 in 13 games this year, including a superb maiden ODI ton in India, and scored at a strike rate of 98. Ashton Turner and D'Arcy Short are also not included in the side and Alex Carey will be the only wicketkeeper on tour. "Both are world class players and it has been pleasing to see them produce some good form in the IPL". Both the players will be making their global comeback during the World Cup after serving the 12-month ban for the ball-tampering scandal.

Shaun Marsh, Smith, Glenn Maxwell and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis make up the middle order.

Australian selector Trevor Hohns said the decision on the final squad was not taken lightly.

Denver Nuggets: Inexperience, lack of Nikola Jokic prove costly in Game 1
The 2019 National Basketball Association playoffs is off to a hot start with a couple of early surprises on the first day. Dario Saric missed on the other end and Paul Millsap hit another 3-pointer with 1:30 left to pull Denver within two.

Despite Smith's return, Australia will be captained by Aaron Finch in its World Cup defence, with selectors having flagged that they would continue with the man who has led the country in one-dayers in Smith's absence.

Pat Cummins will spearhead the attack while Mitchell Starc, the 2015 World Cup player of the tournament, has been recalled after being sidelined with a muscle tear since early February. Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff complete the five-men pace attack.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who has a back injury, and batsman Peter Handscomb have both been omitted from the squad.

Pacemen Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff are among the surprise inclusions. "Our focus is to have Josh back bowling at his best for the commencement of a big Ashes Tour", Hohns was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

He added that there had been some tough calls to make given the depth of talent available, but was happy to see Smith and Warner return to the global fold.
