Game Rewind: Pacers 74, Celtics 84 (Game 1)

15 April 2019

The picture-perfect moment capped a successful Game 1 for the elder Morris, who scored 20 points in a postseason game for just the third time in his Celtics career. Boston got the first basket of the second quarter - a nifty euro-step finish in transition by Gordon Hayward - but in rattled off nine consecutive points and carried that lead into the break thanks in part to Boston's 32.5 percent shooting from the floor, 23.5 percent shooting from three and 10 turnovers, which led to 11 points. "I just really want to be aggressive and really be the head of the snake".

Boston's big run started with a dunk by Jaylen Brown (check it out below), but Irving dominated the third quarter, dropping eight points and dishing out three assists while the Pacers scored just eight points on 2-for-19 shooting. IN scored 29 points in the second half, and the quarter and half were both its worst of the season. "We were getting wide open looks and they were rattling in-and-out or they were just missed shots". Meanwhile, the win was the Celtics' first all season in 10 games when they scored fewer than 100 points.

In the third, however, two things happened that allowed the Celtics to take control of the game completely: Kyrie Irving woke up, and IN went icy cold from the floor.

The putt that sealed Tiger Woods' Masters win
Woods also captured his 15th career major crown, leaving him three behind Jack Nicklaus's record 18. I am so happy for him and for the game of golf.

Cory Joseph was Indiana's leading scorer with 14 points. "Those shots fall in Game 2, we're talking about a different game".

This is obviously not where the Boston Celtics were hoping to be but even with a season full of inconsistency and apparent chemistry problems, they have everything they need to make a run at the title. The Celtics are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 Conference Quarterfinals games, 20-5-1 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest.

The Celtics lead the series 1-0, but have now defeated the Indiana Pacers four consecutive times. "I appreciated that. I think we all did". No other Celtics player had more than two points. Before you make any Pacers vs. Celtics picks, listen to what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say. "I got a couple of bigs guarding me, so I'm just trying to space the floor and read their closeouts [and] trying to let the game come to me".
