Toyota boosts United States investments to $13B by 2021, adds about 600 jobs

Toyota announced a year ago it would jointly build a new $1.6 billion plant with Mazda Motor Corp in Alabama.

Toyota Motor North America CEO Jim Lentz said the driving force behind the overall investment has been consumers' "insatiable appetite" for light trucks over passenger cars, pointing to Highlander and RAV4 production and past pickup truck production.

Toyota has 10 United States manufacturing facilities and previous year announced a $1.6 billion joint venture with Mazda to build a plant also in Huntsville that will eventually employ 4,000 workers. This donation is part of Toyota's focus on building the future workforce.

The $288 million investment is going to drive up production 35%, increasing the plant's annual engine capacity from 670,000 to 900,000 by the end of 2021. I couldn't be prouder of the work they do or more excited that Toyota is expanding their next generation hybrid transaxle production capabilities in our state.

The investment is part of the company's $13 billion investment aimed at expanding operations at its USA plants in West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri and Tennessee by 2021, creating almost 600 new jobs.

They also will create 13 new jobs in the Jackson facility as a result of the investment. The jobs are not coming to the WSAZ region, but the company is investing $238 million in the Georgetown plant. The senator said 230 employers will be represented at the job fair from 11 3 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. executives, local officials, and Gov. Matt Bevin got together for the announcement.

Toyota said it plans to add 600 new jobs at its USA manufacturing facilities over the same period as it builds more vehicles and auto parts, including the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Lexus ES 300h Hybrid. The plant has the capacity of 12,000 units.

"Today's announcement further cements the strong community partnership Toyota has in our state".

Toyota also is spending $62 million to boost production at its Troy, Missouri, facility. "This significant announcement puts the company in position to better serve its customers for years to come, and we look forward to Toyota, Scott County and Kentucky continuing to grow together".
