Black Panther roars with early Grammy Award win for musical score

11 February 2019

"I am truly excited to be here hosting the Grammy Awards this year". Best new artist Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive her own award during the telecast, and Lorde, the sole woman to earn an album of the year nomination, was not invited to perform her own music.

Brandi Carlile, who's already taken home three trophies, for best American roots performance and best American roots song for "The Joke", as well as best Americana album for By The Way, I Forgive You.

In the Best New Artist category, 6 of the 8 nominees are women.

"Americana music is the island of the misfit toys".

"To be embraced by this enduring and loving community has been the dance of a lifetime". I sang that version in one take, & poured my entire life & soul into it. Thank you so much for this gift I am completely shocked. We just won our first of Grammy nominations for the night.

It all began when Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich told The Associated Press in an article published Thursday that by the time Grande and those running the show reached the point where a performance felt possible, she decided against it because she felt it was "too late for her to pull something together".

This win came on the heels of the pair (along with Lukas Nelson) winning the Best Original Music BAFTA for "A Star Is Born".

May to appeal for more time to secure backstop changes
Tony Blair stepped up his warnings on no-deal Brexit today saying it would be "devastating" for Northern Ireland and breach the Good Friday Agreement.

Childish Gambino, Tori Kelly and Lauren Daigle won two awards each.

Top nominees Gaga, Monae, Cardi B, Carlile and country star Kacey Musgraves are all due to take the stage at the Staples Center.

As has become the case in recent years, the Grammys started handing out awards before the awards ceremony on Sunday night, leaving Gaga awash in emotions and tears even as she was still getting ready for the big event.

The brazen comment drew outrage and prompted the executive, Neil Portnow, to say he would resign when his contract expires this summer. The song and album is also up for record of the year and album of the year, respectively.

The show will be hosted this year by 15-time Grammy victor Alicia Keys.

Sunday's show will include performances by Diana Ross, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Dolly Parton, Janelle Monae, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, Ricky Martin and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and Andra Day will honor the late Aretha Franklin with a performance. The glittering ceremony will be hosted by Alicia Keys at 8pm ET.

She hailed the importance "particularly for women to have our seat at the table, to represent the fact that we are so here and so incredible and we are the creators of our music".
