Kanye West's demand for a dome killed his headlining gig at Coachella

Up until January 1, we were making a poster with Kanye on it.

The outlet reports that two days before the lineup was due to be announced, West asked Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett to build him a custom dome in the middle of the festival grounds, under which West would perform instead of the traditional main stage.

And while that report actually turns out to be kind of true, the real story is so much better still...

The 2019 Coachella lineup nearly looked a lot different, as Kanye West was rumored to be one of its headliners until, according to Billboard, West reportedly asked Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett to have a giant dome custom built in the middle of the festival grounds.

The dome would be created by set designer John McGuire, and Kanye would play in the centre in an in the round format.

There is also speculation that private secretary Samantha Cohen is wrapping things up after 17 years with the Royal Family. The Duchesses of Cambridge and Cornwall both also have female personal protection officers on their security teams.

After Kanye was denied his giant dome, the rapper and producer was reportedly irritated, stating that he's an artist with a creative vision who shouldn't be spending his time discussing portable bathrooms. Coachella wasn't the only festival where Kanye had disagreements with the concert promoter: Billboard has learned that West was close to landing a headliner slot at Governors Ball in NY, only to have promoters turn down his last-minute dome request and part ways a day before the lineup was announced. He told the people from Goldenvoice - Coachella's parent company - that he was on vacation with his family and that it was the festival's responsibility to deal with the bathrooms before hanging up.

Pissed off, Kanye West reportedly reacted... not so well. "These 40x60 stages are so archaic", a source said.

Goldenvoice quickly changed course after that, moving to secure Ariana Grande as a replacement. Less than 24 hours after West pulled out, Grande was confirmed for the final night.

So THAT is how it all came to be!
