Colbert addressed reports that Harris plans to announce a presidential run on Martin Luther King Jr.
Meanwhile Harris, 54, hasn't confirmed her run for President, but has said in numerous interviews that she will make that decision soon. She was the first woman attorney general of California and first African American to occupy that position.
If all goes as planned, per the source to CBS News, the announcement will come from Oakland, where Harris was born.
"I think a mishandled announcement can hurt more than a well-handled announcement helps", said the Democratic strategist and pollster Joel Benenson, a veteran of former President Barack Obama's and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaigns. This week's soft launch enables her to reveal - on her own terms and at length - more about her backstory as the child of immigrants who were civil rights activists.
Beyond the book, Harris supported legislation that passed the Senate late a year ago and overhauls the criminal justice system, especially when it comes to sentencing rules.
"Despite a woman's role in the world, there are still certain myths of what a woman can and cannot do, Harris said, citing her mother". The tentative plan is for Harris to enter the race with a campaign rally in the city where she was born and began her legal career.
Thomas first female on-field NFL playoff game official
Thomas's career has been an ongoing blitz against sexism in the NFL. Then she became the NFL's first full-time female official. Making history is nothing new for Thomas.
"When the conversation shifts, one should be expected to be questioned about those choices", Chatfield said, noting among other issues Harris's advocacy for tougher truancy laws.
But a campaign also could hurt her standing. Elizabeth Warren, who recently formed an exploratory committee but has not officially announced a presidential run, are considered among the top contenders for the Democratic nomination.
Harris is one of several high-profile Democrats who are considering running for president in 2020.
"He ran as the law-and-order president", Elleithee said of Trump.
I wonder if she'll invite the Knights of Columbus.
Back in December 2018, controversial conservative commentator Ann Coulter predicted Harris would be the next U.S. president, complaining that Donald Trump had "zero chance of being re-elected" if he didn't build a U.S. -Mexico border wall.
