Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy to sit out the 2019 season

The Jets are staying within the division to try and turn Sam Darnold into a franchise quarterback, and will turn to former Dolphins coach Adam Gase to be their next head coach, according to multiple reports.

Gase served as the offensive coordinator in Denver and Chicago before being hired by the Dolphins, where he spent three seasons.

He's been a collegiate head coach since 2013, first taking Temple to a pair of bowl games in four seasons, then taking over Baylor in the wake of the Art Briles scandal. He was sacked by Miami in late December. "The former Green Bay Packers coach is interested in only one team, the Jets, although it appears they're the only team interested in him". He led the team to a 10-6 record and a playoff appearance in his first year in Miami in 2016 but tallied just 15 total wins over the next two seasons.

Along with the names mentioned above, the Dolphins requested interviews with Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, but they were unsuccessful in meeting with either of them.

The Jets finished the 2018 season 4-12 and last in the AFC East. Loggains previously worked under Gase in the same capacity with the Dolphins.

Jets job is trending toward a Matt Rhule hire.
