Santiago Solari praises out of favour Isco after Copa del Rey double

07 December 2018

The return leg of the 2018/19 Copa del Rey Round of 32 tie between Real Madrid and Melilla will kick off at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on Thursday 6 December 2018 at the local time of 16:15 hours CET.

The Spain global is yet to start a match for Madrid since Solari replaced the sacked Julen Lopetegui following the 5-1 Clasico embarrassment against Barcelona at the end of October.

Solari gave little away in terms of team selection, but Castilla players Javi Sanchez, Fidalgo and Cristo have been included in his squad. "That's what we all want to see out on the field against Melilla".

"This game let us see many players who are well and committed", Solari added.

Smash coming out, there are going to be a ton of games that will be announced in the show that will go live that night. The Game Awards 2018 will be streamed live on YouTube, Twitch , Facebook Live, Xbox Live, Mixer, Steam and PlayStation.

"I am very happy for [Isco], for those goals, I was a bit sorry for the first that the keeper saved in the first half, which would have been a golazo", Solari said at the postmatch news conference.

Now in full-time charge, Solari rang the changes for this match up against modest Melilla, with the Argentine resting the likes of Thibaut Courtois, newly crowned Ballon d'Or victor Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema.

Madrid have not always been so comfortable against lower division teams in the Copa in recent years, and Solari said the 10 goals scored across the two legs showed how everyone within his squad was focused on their jobs. There are three, two in LaLiga which are vital for us, and the other one comes in the Champions League.

Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Alvaro Odriozola and Cristo were all on target for Real in the first leg, while Melilla have since won all five of their league games and hold a five-point lead at the top of their Segunda B group.
