YouTube added free, ad-supported 100 Hollywood movies

19 November 2018

If you take a look in the movies section of YouTube, you will - if you spend a little time looking around - find that the site is now promoting free feature-length movies. The revenue generated will be split with the movie studios who agree to allow their movies to be offered using this free format.

YouTube is reportedly letting viewers in the U.S. watch classic films like Rocky and The Terminator for free. However, this development marks the first time the platform offered up ad-supported full-length features in an official capacity.

AdAge confirmed that the Google video service quietly started adding free, ad-supported movies in October. YouTube now has some Hollywood movies available to watch for free with ads. However the standout titles are Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, The Terminator and Rocky.

She was "suffering flu-like symptoms, and possibly pneumonia, for several weeks", said someone close to Porter in the TMZ report . Kim Porter's autopsy may have been completed this week, but there are still plenty of questions over what led to her death .

"We saw this opportunity based on user demand, beyond just offering paid movies", Youtube's Rohit Dhawan told AdAge. Naturally, those who pay for YouTube Premium can already access the movies and don't have to put up with the adverts.

The new free streaming facility also "presents a nice opportunity for advertisers", Dhawan said.

YouTube added that it will eventually add functionality for advertisers to sponsor individual movies and deliver users complimentary views and exclusive screenings.
