Castle keen for World Cup recommendation to be introduced

Hosting this tournament gives young New Zealanders an opportunity to watch the world's best women's players in action will hopefully inspire many more to give rugby a go.

It is, of course, the scene of one of South Africa's most famous rugby days following their heroic 36-34 win against New Zealand at the venue back in September.

New Zealand won their fifth Women's Rugby World Cup in 2017 after they beat England 41 - 32 in a pulsating final at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast, Ireland.

The Aon Uni 7s competition has also been a success, with Australian women's coach John Manenti recruiting a number of players from that competition to play in last week's Oceania 7s, where an Australian development side beat New Zealand.

"While we are naturally disappointed at today's outcome, we are energized and excited to continue to build on the platform of growth we have set in women's Rugby in recent years".

There are also significant impacts through worldwide exposure and broadcast opportunities, including in some of Auckland's priority markets of Australia, United States, Japan and China.

New Zealand has also been promised central government support for its proposed tournament based in Auckland and Northland.

F1 champion Hamilton clarifies India ‘poor place’ comments following backlash
Indian Grand Prix was staged from 2011 to 2013 with Sebastian Vettel winning all three races for Red Bull. However, his comments did not go down well with fans in India and drew their ire on social media.

The event comes between other big events including the sailing of the America's Cup early in the year, the World Softball Championships and Apec leaders' week in November.

New Zealand's bid to host the 2021 women's tournament in Auckland and Whangarei prevailed despite having less government money behind their proposal.

The Springboks will return to the city which hosted what was arguably their most remarkable victory in recent years - Westpac Stadium in Wellington - in their only clash against the All Blacks of the 2019 Rugby Championship.

The women's tournament in 2021 will be the first held in the southern hemisphere after being held in Wales (1991), Scotland (1994), the Netherlands (1998), Spain (2002), Canada (2006), England (2010), France (2014) and Ireland (2017).

At this stage it appears the battle to host the 2027 tournament is between Australia and Argentina, with influential World Rugby powerbroker Gus Pichot a potentially strong weapon for the South Americans.

Mayor Phil Goff says it is great news that Auckland will be jointly hosting this exciting event.
