A gun comes out.
The best way to stop a shooting is for a good guy with a gun to intervene.
The theory turned to grim reality at Manny's Blue Room Bar in Robbins, Illinois, outside Chicago early Sunday.
Illinois State Police are handling the investigation into Roberson's shooting.
Police shot and killed the good guy. "The vest said security as well ... and they shot him in the side".
As police arrived, Roberson was holding "somebody on the ground with his knee in his back, with his gun in his back like, 'Don't move, '" witness Adam Harris told WGN9.
The incident may become a touchstone in a persistent debate about how places such as schools, nightclubs and houses of worship should steel themselves against gunmen.
A federal lawsuit was filed Monday in the shooting death of a bar security guard by a south suburban police officer over the weekend.
Roberson was armed at the time and had a valid Firearm Owners ID card, police said.
Lorde Accuses Kid Cudi, Kanye West of Stealing Floating Glass Box Stage
During Lorde's shows, she would have a dancer inside while she sang, but later got inside the box herself during the performance. West tweeted about the performance on Monday, though he didn't reference Lorde's criticisms.
Details about the IL shooting were unclear Monday.
The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is investigating the officer-involved shooting, according to the statement. Delaney said one Midlothian officer "encountered a subject with a gun and was involved in an officer-involved shooting".
Witnesses said Roberson, who was black, apprehended a man involved in the bar shooting after he opened fire.
A responding officer with the Midlothian Police Department immediately shot Roberson, who later died at a hospital.
Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff's office, had previously said that the officer fatally shot Roberson inside the bar.
Sheriff's police officers remained at the scene through Sunday, where an area of about one block surrounding the bar was cordoned off. Delaney did not answer a question about the administrative status of the officer.
Patricia Hill, the pastor of Purposed Hill in Chicago, said that Roberson had dreamed of being a police officer.
At least 173 of those shot and killed by police this year - 21 per cent - were black. "Until Black people have the power to determine who polices them and how they are policed, cops will brutalize, torture and murder us with impunity", Frank Chapman of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression told RT. They know him. They seen him, and once the police actually shot him, everybody started screaming. "He was getting ready to train and do all that stuff, so the very people he wanted to be family with, took his life", Hill said.
