Tallahassee Mayor Gillum, Republican former Rep. DeSantis cast votes

07 Ноября 2018

In a close contest that mirrored the Senate contest between Republican Gov. Rick Scott and Democratic incumbent Sen. At a recent DeSantis rally, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said the race was "cotton-pickin' important". Despite the edge from Democrats in 2016, President Donald Trump won Florida due to a surge of GOP voters on Election Day.

Under Georgia law, if neither Abrams nor Kemp wins a majority of the vote on Tuesday, their battle continues to a December runoff.

"In Florida there is a choice between a Harvard/Yale educated man named @RonDeSantisFL who has been a great Congressman and will be a great Governor - and a Dem who is a thief and who is Mayor of poorly run Tallahassee said to be one of the most corrupt cities in the Country!" He enjoyed support from President Trump throughout his campaign. In all, in only six of the state's 67 counties did the proposal receive less than 50 percent of the vote.

The outcome of elections for state positions could also affect future control of the US House of Representatives.

The governor-elect said he will "fight the good fight" and hopes to work with people on both sides of the aisle no matter who they supported. Election Day votes were being counted and released throughout the evening.

Overall, turnout in Miami-Dade was expected to be around 56 percent, a record for a mid-term election.

As expected, statewide Democratic candidates fared well in South Florida, where the party dominates voter rolls.

Gillum called DeSantis and conceded victory late Tuesday night.

Gillum also spoke to the crowd about the issues that caused him to run for office and said his message to Trump and DeSantis is clear, "The politics of hatred and separation have come to an end".

In Georgia, Democrat Stacey Abrams, 44, was vying to become the nation's first black female governor against Republican Brian Kemp, the state's secretary of state.

"On Election Day, it's the voice of the people that roars", DeSantis told supporters at his election party and called it "the one day the elites don't call the shots ... and they don't set the agenda".

In trackable money, DeSantis led by just $1 million, meaning cash ultimately wouldn't decide who prevailed.

A series of records released in late October linked Gillum to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, showing in part that the Mayor may have accepted a ticket to the Broadway musical "Hamilton" from an undercover agent posing as a developer wanting to do deals in the city. Republicans, meanwhile, were able to win big margins in traditional strongholds in the Panhandle and the Naples-Fort Myers area.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
