USA midterm polls: Leaders in final push ahead of polls

06 November 2018

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has outlined a legislative agenda that includes Democratic priorities like lowering prescription drug prices and reforming campaign finance laws.

Cook moved an open seat in Washington from "toss-up" to "lean-Democrat" and shifted a race in Pennsylvania and Georgia's 6th district from "lean-Republican" to "toss-up".

While Republican majorities in the House and Senate helped Trump deliver on the promises he made on the campaign trail, the loss of that advantage in either chamber could derail the momentum. It's not even the Bracamontes ad per se that might convince them to do it, just a late reminder right before the big vote that Trump routinely says and does things that irk them and that they should "send him a message" of disapproval with their vote instead.

"[It will mean] he can fire Jeff Sessions and essentially end the Mueller investigation and replace him with the attorney general of his choosing". The Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) would very likely be repealed once and for all.

As a rule of thumb, the party that controls the presidency loses seats in the midterm elections. Democrats have a lengthy list of their own priorities they would like to vote on such as lowering prescription drug costs.

Trump has loomed large in both races, and he's even used his Twitter feed to blast Democratic candidates Andrew Gillum, who faces Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis in Florida, and Stacey Abrams who is facing Republican Brian Kemp of Georgia.

Meanwhile his staff has begun preparations to deal with a flood of subpoenas that could arrive next year from Democrat-controlled committees and the White House counsel's office has been trying to attract seasoned lawyers to field oversight inquiries.

"No, he will have lost the House", Wallace said. "One election won't eliminate racism, sexism or homophobia", Mr Obama said.

In the U.S. Senate, 32 seats are up for grabs this November, but 23 of them are now held by Democrats. That means one thing for certain - a lot of oversight.

"I do eventually want to unite, but I'm driving them insane", Trump said in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Amazon HQ2 to be split evenly between two cities
Many reporters quickly reacted on Twitter to the Journal story, with some joking about naming conventions. The company had promised to bring 50,000 high-paying jobs and $5 billion in construction to HQ2's home .

BUY CONSTRUCTION STOCKS Dryden Pence, chief investment officer of Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach, California, is looking to buy construction-related stocks, as he anticipates that an infrastructure bill, one of Trump's agenda items, will come to pass regardless of which party controls Congress.

Among other significant findings, President Donald Trump's job rating among likely voters is 46 percent approve, 52 percent disapprove, which is the same as in October. The best possible outcome would include Democrats also holding North Dakota - and batting 1.000 on defense - and getting as much as a 53-47 Senate majority.

All 435 seats in the House of Representative seats are on the ballot with 35 Senate seats in play.

But Republicans who have been down this road before offer words of caution - be careful what you wish for.

Trump's shadow has hung over the midterm elections that will determine the future of his presidency, with the monthslong fight serving as a testing ground for his nationalist appeals and the strength of the coalition that powered him to the White House two years ago. Those who fueled that movement demanded instant results.

On the eve of the election, Republicans edging ahead of Democrats by one point in a generic congressional ballot survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports, the polling company that came closest to predicting the outcome of the 2016 election.

So Democrats could win as few as 203 and as many as 262?

"These constituencies are gonna expect abolishing ICE". Acknowledging the stakes in the closing days of campaigning, Trump stressed to voters that everything is on the line when they go to the polls.

But on the cusp of Tuesday's vote, many Democrats are as anxious as they are hopeful.

According to bookmakers Coral, the Democrats are 4-9 odds on favourites to win the House. They view Democrats eagerness to investigate the president as a blessing in disguise in the run-up to 2020. And how will Democrats, if they fall short, sustain the energy from young people and women who have marched in protest of Trump, registered to vote and volunteered for the first time this election season.
