Heat interested in restarting Butler trade talks

10 October 2018

During a practice session on Wednesday, the All-Star guard, who requested a trade three weeks ago, blew up at his teammates, coaches and front-office staff, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Here's a comprehensive timeline of the Butler trade rumors since his initial request.

The practice comes after sources said that the Heat were still pressing for a trade to acquire Butler.

Nobody wants this, and Woj doesn't go on to speculate on whether this could even be a possibility, so no thank you.

At the end of the season, you can make sure you can win something, not at the beginning of the season. Every team in the Premier League wants that, but it's only for a few of them.

Butler participated in multiple intrasquad scrimmages, where he joined the bench units against the starters and went out of his way to challenge the team's two young stars, Towns and Wiggins, league sources said. Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor took a different stance and told owners owners at the National Basketball Association board of governors meetings that "Butler is available, and prospective suitors should contact Taylor himself", according to Wojnarowski.

"[Taylor] could have escaped his Butler nightmare by accepting a package from Miami that would have been headlined by the promising Heat swingman Josh Richardson and a protected first-round pick", Stein wrote in his latest mailbag column. He's in the first season of a four-year, $42 million contract. Butler verbally attacked Thibodeau and generally manager Scott Layden per Wojnarowski, reportedly telling Layden during a scrimmage, "You f--ing need me". Minnesota moved to amend the framework of the trade and talks collapsed on Saturday, league sources said. "Butler has told Minnesota that he'll leave in free agency in July - and wants a trade now".

Tom Thibodeau and Glen Taylor may be toying with the Miami Heat and Pat Riley so they Heat can raise the ante on what they can potentially give up for Jimmy Butler.
