5 straight birdies lift Tway to playoff win

10 October 2018

Kevin Tway is in second at 13-under following a four-under-par 68.

"I'm gonna look back on that one in a few years as, man, I really gave that one away", Snedeker said.

Snedeker, the overnight leader, dropped out of the play-off on the first hole after Tway and Moore made birdies at the 18th and he could only manage par.

Tway is the son of former OSU and PGA golfer Bob Tway.

Fred Couples had a 75 to tie for 41st at 5 under in his final start in a regular PGA Tour event.

"It's done, and I didn't do it", he said. "He's pretty proud of me". He's probably the biggest person I lean on. "It's been a long ride but this is why you work hard right here". "Finally got here and it feels incredible".

Australian Aaron Baddeley has tied for fourth place as Kevin Tway claimed his maiden US PGA Tour victory in the season-opening Safeway Open after a three-man, sudden-death playoff.

Officials warn residents to keep an eye on Tropical Storm Michael
The storm was moving north at 12 miles per hour and strengthening with maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour . The storm more than likely will become a Hurricane before it makes landfall along the coastal panhandle of Florida.

Tway, the son of 1986 PGA Championship victor Bob, was in a three-way race for the title after going around in 71 in the final day and finishing on 14-under alongside compatriots Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker.

The trio finished regulation at 14-under 274, one stroke ahead of five others.

"I was just able to put together a round of golf", said Moore, who had six birdies and just one bogey.

After a birdie on 16, a further bogey on the 17th saw Snedeker card a disappointing 74 to tie with Moore (67), and playing partner Tway, who birdied the 17th and 18th holes to scrape into the three-way shoot-out.

Conversely, Moore played himself into contention with a round of 67 having started the day seven shots off the lead.

"This was a bonus, just to be in this position to have a chance to win", he added.
