Pep Guardiola - Manchester City desire vs. Arsenal 'same as last season'

12 August 2018

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City): Started six of England's seven matches in the World Cup without getting on the score-sheet, but within 14 minutes of the new Premier League season he had already registered for his club to underline just how Pep Guardiola gets the best out of him.

It's a fresh start for everyone at the club and what better way to continue the new found positivity surrounding Arsenal than with an opening day win against City. Whether it's the sort of dawn that brings long, sultry days on a tropical beach or the kind that beckons persistent stair-road degrees of shower is moot, but everything really has changed and today we'll get our first competitive taste of how the Gunners might fare under Arsene Wenger Unai Emery.

What frustrated Arsenal fans most was that Emery started Xhaka ahead of the £27m summer signing Lucas Torreira, who was sat on the bench.

However, this could be a good time to play them. City were superior to Arsenal in every department. On this evidence, Emery also has lots of work to do to ensure the Gunners have a robust-enough defence to challenge seriously for the top four. The major issue is at left-back, where Sead Kolasinac is definitely out and Nacho Monreal is considered doubtful, which may mean Ainsley Maitland-Niles starting. He didn't play in Manchester City's win over Chelsea in the Community Shield.

There were a number of concerning moments with the ball at his feet.

Erdogan slams United States for preferring terrorists as partner
Erdogan is also upset at the protection U.S. coalition forces are providing the Kurds in Syria, against the invading Turkish army. Trump's "jubilation in inflicting economic hardship on its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey is shameful", he wrote.

Sergio Aguero passed up a hugely presentable chance just before Silva put the result beyond any doubt with 64 minutes gone with a thunderous strike from a Benjamin Mendy cutback, as the Unai Emery era at Arsenal ended in disappointing fashion.

Bernd Leno is expected to be preferred in goal to Petr Cech, with Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis the centre-back pairing.

Aaron Ramsey looks like a definite starter as part of the midfield two, and the Arsenal boss will make a late decision on his partner. Going forward, things were made particularly hard for him by the absence of a natural left-back to lend him support.

Given the truncated preseason he's had after heavy World Cup involvement, his energy and enthusiasm were impressive. But it's just one game [in the Premier League].
