Maurizio Sarri anticipates early season 'problems' before Chelsea reach full potential

"I have to know the characteristics of the players because I think I don't want to do another Naples", Sarri told reporters at his post-match press conference.

Sarri has committed himself to doing things his own way at Chelsea, promising attractive football and scrapping Antonio Conte's three-man defence in favour of the 4-3-3 set-up he employed at Napoli.

The 23-year-old signed a seven-year deal after completing his world-record £72.1million move from Athletic Bilbao as the Blues replaced Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtois. Cesc Fabregas was also unavailable, having suffered a slight injury ahead of the match.

Roared on by the loud home support that had helped them to survival at the end of last season, Huddersfield had plenty of early pressure.

Hazard came on for Willian with just 15 minutes of the game remaining but that was enough time for him to make an impression and really stake his claim as one of the best players in the Premier League once again.

"This is understandable after this good first half and you sit at half-time and you are 2-0 down". However, they will certainly need to be more clinical and penetrative if they are to build on last season's fine work. But the Blues were clearly the better side on the day despite not kicking into gear under Sarri just yet.

Substitutes: Lossl, Smith, Diakhaby, Ramadan, Van la Parra, Depoitre (6), Stankovic.

Mourinho prepared for 'difficult' season after transfer woes
The Frenchman, who had been linked with a possible transfer window move to Barcelona , said he remained hungry for more success. We have big and multi-functional coaching staffs, and I think we are more the head coach than the manager.

STAR MAN - Mounie seemed the most likely to hurt the visiting Londoners and came quite close to equalising after Kante scored in the first half.

Once Kovacic is up to speed with Chelsea and their new system, the Croatian is expected to occupy that third role in midfield alongside Kante and Jorginho, as a fitting replacement for Marek Hamsik whom Sarri had at Napoli. The infraction resulted in Jorginho scoring a penalty to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead. Debutant Jorginho stepped up and coolly dispatched after a slow approach.

Chelsea went ahead in the first half through a World Cup victor in N'Golo Kante, as he got on the end of a Willian cross and despite not quite connecting with the ball as he would have liked, he found the corner of the net.

Arrizabalaga 7, Azpilicueta 7, Rudiger 7, David Luiz 8, Alonso 6, Jorginho 8, Kante 8, Barkley 5, Willian 7, Pedro 8, Morata 5.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC's website, he said: "I think I will be able to adapt and I find his style, his ideas and how he likes to play very attractive".

With the victory, Chelsea top the English Premier League with superior goals difference and they host Arsenal in their next meeting.
