The Ariel Atom 4 is nearly entirely new, with only the clutch and brake pedals and fuel cap carried over from the last model.
As ever, the Atom 4 is an ultra-stripped-down tube-frame machine. It has Ariel's own ECU and delivers enough punch to grant the track-focused machine with a sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 kph) in just 2.8 seconds and a run from 0 to 100 miles per hour (161 kph) in an wonderful 6.8 seconds before topping out at 162 miles per hour (261 kph).
The Atom's new tubular chassis is 15% lighter than the Atom 3.5's, but features improved legroom, interior space and protection in the event of an accident.
The redesigned Atom features Honda's latest Type R turbo engine, an all-new chassis, refined suspension, new bodywork, revised seating and new instrumentation. Output of the four-cylinder engine is channeled to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Claimed total weight is a stunningly low 1,312 pounds - that's less than half the weight of the regular Type R hatchback.
Aerodynamic improvements are said to improve downforce and engine cooling while reducing "helmet lift" for the occupants. At the same time, Ariel says that the new aerodynamics help give the Atom 4 more "neutral" handling.
Microsoft takes the fight to Slack with a free version of Teams
Microsoft has done a good job of positioning Teams as the central app for productivity inside the Office 365 ecosystem. On Thursday, Microsoft launched a free version of Teams worldwide across 40 languages.
The cabin is still stripped-out but now a little more spacious.
The Atom's pushrod damper system has been optimized for the 4 with new geometry that includes revised inboard and outboard points to reduce unnecessary body roll and keep the tires stuck to the pavement. Bilstein dampers constitute the standard, passive set-up. A new steering rack tightens the car's turning circle, too. Also at an additional cost are the full carbon fiber wheels shaving off nearly 50 percent of weight compared to the alloys. Ariel engineers also installed larger brakes than the last Atom, with even bigger AP Racing units offered as an option.
One of the coolest minimal cars that is at home on the race track as it is the highway is the Ariel Atom.
Ariel has announced an all-new auto that keeps the iconic design of the original and turns it up several notches called the Ariel Atom 4.
Pricing details have only been disclosed for the United Kingdom market where the Ariel Atom 4 kicks off from £39,975 (approximately $53,000) or just about the same as the old supercharged Atom 3.5. Production starts toward the end of this year with the first deliveries scheduled for spring 2019.
