Giancarlo Stanton loses out in AL All-Star fan vote

12 July 2018

This will be Segura's second All-Star appearance.

Aguilar received 20.2 million votes, which is the second-highest amount in Final Vote history, according to ESPN. If he surpasses Segura and is added to the All-Star roster, Benintendi will be the sixth member of the Red Sox to make the team, joining pitchers Chris Sale and Craig Kimbrel, outfielder Mookie Betts, designated hitter J.D. Martinez and first baseman Mitch Moreland.

Benintendi entered Wednesday batting.298 with 25 doubles, five triples, and 14 home runs for a.906 OPS.

Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is third in the voting. Segura, who made the NL All-Star squad in 2013 with Milwaukee, is the first Seattle player to win the fan voting for the final spot.

Aguilar's trip to Washington, D.C. will mark his first All-Star Game selection. Now in its 17 season, the All-Star Final Vote has recorded over 845 million votes. Winning the online balloting for the AL is Mariners shortstop Jean Segura.

Chief of Staff John Kelly jerked his head away as US Ambassador to Nato Kay Bailey Hutchison looked up at the ceiling. That means that if Trump really wants to pull out of USA commitments here, he's going to have to take several steps.

In the NL balloting, he won out over Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals, Brandon Belt of the Giants, Max Muncy of the Dodgers, and Trea Turner of the Nationals. Aguilar, who is tied for the NL lead with 23 home runs, joins his teammates Lorenzo Cain, Josh Hader and Christian Yelich as Brewers selected to the NL All-Star roster. Segura is hitting.329/.356/.467. He is second in the bigs with 116 hits heading into today's games.

As for Segura, the Mariners infielder is in the midst of a career year at the plate.

Andrew Benintendi will get some time off during the All-Star break next week. The 24 foreign-born players include players from Venezuela (8), Puerto Rico (6), the Dominican Republic (4), Cuba (2), Curacao (2), Canada (1) and South Korea (1).
