Former Atletico Madrid and Spain forward Fernando Torres has announced that he has agreed to join Japanese club Sagan Tosu and expects to make his debut for them later this month.
"It is an exciting challenge for both of us".
But the prolific marksman has rejected the opportunity to continue plying his trade on European soil and chose to cut his teeth in the Japan Professional Football League with relegation strugglers Sagan Tosu.
A World Cup and European championship victor with Spain, Torres made his final appearance for Atletico as a late substitute in Madrid's Europa League final win over Marseille.
At the age of 34, the ex-Anfield hero has decided on a change of pace and heads to a team which finished eighth in the J1 League last season.

It was not immediately clear if the filing would stop the execution scheduled at Ely State Prison, 250 miles north of Las Vegas . Though Dozier dropped attempts to save his own life, he allowed federal public defenders to challenge the execution protocol.
Fernando Torres will reveal the next stop in his illustrious career on Tuesday, with a move to Major League Soccer or the A-League two likely destinations.
After deleting the news, J League officials were quick to apologise for the error. Numerous reports indicate that Torres has signed an 18-month contract with options beyond that.
In what is perhaps one of the most freakish rumours so far this summer, Fox Sports have confirmed that the FFA are set to hold talks with the former England striker over a potential move to an Australian club.
He has 42 caps for England, scoring 22 goals, and has also played for an array of English clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton and Aston Villa.
The Japanese global is after a one-year contract worth $US5 million ($6.7 million) on top of other benefits - well out of the A-League's price range.
