Xbox One rolls out FastStart feature to speed up downloads

07 July 2018

Why it matters: Digital game downloads are convenient, but they aren't ideal.

Microsoft has confirmed that the July update for Xbox One has started rolling out for users today, bringing with it a host of new features for the console.

Groups is an enhancement to Xbox's Pins feature that allows you to create different collections of any of the items under Games and Apps. The July Update (version 1806) is part of the Redstone 4 development branch, which is analogous to the April 2018 Update on the Windows 10 PC side of things. FastStart was announced at E3 and is all about getting into Xbox One games quickly after starting a download.

Dublin faces water restrictions as lush Ireland swelters
There is a "constant risk of restrictions" on the water supply in Mullingar and Athlone, Irish Water has said. High levels of sunlight means significant evaporation levels on water sources.

This feature is now enabled for English-language titles in the Xbox Game Pass catalog, and Microsoft plans to expand it to "more games in more languages over time", Hryb wrote. You can now press the Y button anywhere on the dashboard to bring up the search box and look for Settings, Games, or products in the store.

The July Xbox Update also makes it easier to use Share Controller on the web. Multi-touch was added, so multiple controls can be used at the same time. Mixer can now work with full screen broadcasting for webcams - JOY. The game also features a greater focus on survival, with the cold weather conditions as much a blight on player health as the guerilla-style combat.

The game has been undergoing some big changes since it left the Xbox Preview Program, including the addition of Duo mode, invite a friend options, private matches, the Glider tool, skill-based matchmaking, and five new Show Director powers. This is what differentiates it from the existing Ready to Start feature - that allowed players to launch games before they were fully downloaded, but required developers to manually section off required data.
