Comedian raped and murdered after sending text: "I'm nearly home safe, HBU"

16 June 2018

Reports say that just a few hundred meters before reaching her home, she did the thing that many women have adopted as standard safety behavior and texted a friend "I'm nearly home safe, HBU [how 'bout you]".

Her body was found by a passer-by at 3am yesterday in Princes Park, in the Carlton North suburb of the city.

A man, 19, has been charged by police.

The alleged rape and murder of a young comedian as she walked home at night in Australia has prompted an outpouring of public grief and anger.

Caili Christian from the Comedy Women's Association said there needed to be more discussion around women's safety.

Comedian Julia Morris took to Twitter to express her shock.

She was walking home from a comedy show.

One quote from the police investigating Dixon's murder has a lot of people-women, especially-upset at the implications.

Kawhi Leonard wants to leave Spurs, Lakers favored
Part of the meeting would include discussions over the $219 million supermax extension the Spurs could offer Leonard this summer. This appears to be the end of the unusual saga, in which Leonard played just nine games a year ago while nursing a quad injury.

As of 4pm on Friday, a GoFundMe page set up for the Dixon family has raised $47,468 to date. In reality, though, it's infuriating to hear, not just because other sorts of crimes don't generally receive the same sort of "common sense" warnings (highlighting the fact that that language really does place the burden of safety on female victims), but because it completely ignores the fact that we already do all of these things. "She was very bright and very witty and she had a real passion for women's issues and social justice".

"We were all very sure that as a performer she had the potential to really be very successful".

'She was just wonderful, ' he added.

"It's appalling and not good enough that any woman could feel unsafe or even come to harm for choosing to walk home a certain way", she said. In the set, Eurydice Dixon addresses gender equality. Our comedy community is like a family & this news is beyond heart breaking. "My deepest condolences go to her family and friends".

"An important and amusing voice has been extinguished".

Meanwhile, Melbourne's comic community has rallied in tribute to Ms Dixon, with comedian Chris Franklin posting on social media that a memorial will be held at the Highlander Bar, where she performed the night she was killed. "She will be remembered fondly and sadly missed".

It's a horrific tragedy, not lessened by the fact that her accused rapist and murderer, a man Dixon had not known, turned himself in to the police shortly after.
