Liverpool meet with Xherdan Shaqiri’s representatives

11 June 2018

Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri's representatives as the Reds look to add a multi-functional forward to their side.

Throughout the previous season, the Reds' attack was all too reliant on the goal scoring abilities of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with the trio being the main source of Liverpool's goals.

With Shaqiri's eyes firmly on the prize of Russian Federation 2018, his team begun talks with Liverpool officials last Friday, Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones reports (via Stoke Sentinel).

The Swiss worldwide apparently has a £12m relegation release clause in his contract which can now be activated as the Potters were unable to stay in the top-flight.

Reports suggest Shaqiri is available for a knockdown £13.5m as a result of Stoke's relegation from the Premier League, and the likes of Everton, West Ham, Spurs and Mark Hughes' Southampton are also said to be interested in a deal.

Having been out injured for two months before then, Can was left out of Germany's squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation . In January, he was sentenced to 40 hours of unpaid work and a 12-month community order for assaulting his girlfriend.

And any deal for Shaqiri is not dependent on Liverpool sealing the transfer of Nabil Fekir from Lyon.

The attacker refused to be drawn on transfer speculation after insisting his agent will take care of his future while he concentrates on representing Switzerland at the upcoming World Cup.

On a move to Merseyside, Shaqiri said: "Anfield is great, definitely". 'I think my agents take care of my future.

Pressed on his future, Shaqiri told Blick: "I can't tell you anything right now".

I personally think he was being very tactical in not directly answering the reporter's questions and it may well be that a move to Anfield is being put together.
