Actress Tessa Thompson, who played the Valkyrie in the film "Thor: Ragnarok", said the head of Marvel studios Kevin Feige is not just interested in the female ensemble, but "really embracing" this idea.

The bigger surprise is that Ms Marvel is a character of Pakistani descent and Muslim faith named Kamala Khan. Nanjiani co-wrote the Oscar nominated screenplay for The Big Sick with his wife Emily V. Gordon, while Kaling has been nominated for and won numerous awards for her work on both The Office and her solo TV series The Mindy Project.

He explained she is "another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel". The character devotedly followed the career of Captain Marvel and went by the codename Ms Marvel once she discovered her own ability of changing shape.

Co-creator of Kamala Khan and editor of the Ms. Marvel comics Sana Amanat even weighed in with an enigmatic be-monocled emoji.
