The five teams - women's fencing, men's golf, women's tennis, women's volleyball and wrestling - earned multi-year April scores in the top 10 percent nationally for their respective sport through the 2016-17 academic year (data from 2013-14 through 2016-17). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement.
Multi-year April scores for all Division I sports teams will be released by the NCAA May 23.
The APR figures released Wednesday are based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
The Maryland cross country and tennis programs were recognized Wednesday as part of the 2018 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program. Notre Dame's second-place finish in 2018 in terms of sports honored comes after the Irish produced the largest number of honored programs in four of the previous seven years. The 2016-17 honor was the first for the program and marked the first time a Razorback sport made its debut in the public recognition awards since both swimming and diving and volleyball earned their first honors in 2011-12.
In addition, Duke was third among ACC schools, trailing only Notre Dame and Boston College and ahead of North Carolina (10), Clemson (7), Virginia (7), Georgia Tech (5), Louisville (5), Syracuse (5), Florida State (4), Virginia Tech (4), Wake Forest (4), Miami (3), N.C. State (3) and Pittsburgh (3).
