North Korean Envoys Visit China

It followed earlier reports in Japanese media that a high-level North Korean official was in Beijing to brief China about Pompeo's recent visit to Pyongyang.

"Even though the US has said that it will provide economic assistance if North Korea achieves denuclearization, the promise by the USA can not be trusted", Kim reportedly said to Xi, according to Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun on May 13, citing unnamed diplomatic resources.

South Korean companies are exploring ways to invest in North Korea should the country relinquish is nuclear weapons, as Washington signals U.S. firms may also fund projects in the future. "If the North Koreans aren't - and the chances are very high that they are not - then the summit fails". In that scenario, the USA would accept some mixture of half measures to slowly wind down North Korea's nuclear programs while providing them with sanctions relief - much like the deals that have previously failed.

Pompeo also offered more details on what a path to prosperity for North Korea would look like with direct investment by the United States if Kim agrees to Washington's demands.

Observers say China appears to be seeking to step up economic cooperation with the North by inviting key party officials, as it did after former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's visit to China in 2010. Doing so would strike "a critical blow to the core foundation of the North Korean power structure", he said.

Under the Panmunjom Declaration, the two Koreas agreed to connect and modernise railways and roads in the east transport corridor and between Seoul and Sinuiju in North Korea.

Pyongyang has said it does not need nuclear weapons if the security of its regime is guaranteed. "And that's why it's important to test whether, in fact, North Korea has made a strategic decision to give up weapons of mass destruction".

"He'll probably watch this show at some point", the secretary told "Fox News Sunday". With the end of that deal comes the reintroduction of crippling economic sanctions which will serve to isolate, deplete and place strain on the crumbling Iran economy - the same type of sanctions which have finally brought North Korea to the negotiating table. "Those are the kind of things that if we get what it is the President has demanded - complete verifiable irreversible denuclearization of North Korea - that the American people will offer in spades".

According to sources, the delegation included Kim Su-gil, head of the Pyongyang City Committee of the Workers' Party; Kim Nung-o, head of the party's North Pyongan Central Committee; and Ryu Myong-son, director of global affairs at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party.

Pompeo said Trump is in a unique position.
