Brazil Announce 23-man World Cup Squad

15 May 2018

Brazil's football coach, Tite, on Monday revealed his 23-man squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup, featuring some of the biggest names in the footballing world.

Neymar of course, has not been in action since fracturing his foot in February and is touch and go for the World Cup in Russian Federation, which is less than a month away.

"We are observing him closely", Lasmar told a press conference in Rio de Janeiro.

"Next week, he'll be able to start training with the group".

PSG right-back Dani Alves was last week ruled out because of a knee injury.

In Tite's 23-man squad Alves place has been comfortably covered by the presence of two men of similar abilities in Danilo of Manchester City and Fagner, whom Tite knows from his time at the helm of Corinthians' 2015 national championship-winning team.

"Coutinho can play in the middle and in the flanks, he is versatile", Tite said.

He said misunderstandings are removed in the light of the facts. "A decision should be made about who is a patriot and who is a traitor", he added.

The 56-year-old manager admitted that some of the players chosen - such as Fagner and Taison - were favored by having played under him at club level.

The five-time World Cup champions have been drawn in Group E, where they will face Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia, and many expect them to go far in Russian Federation.

They will begin their campaign against Switzerland on 17 June at Rostov Arena.

PSG are also represented by centre-back duo Thiago Silva and Marquinhos.

The inclusion of Taison, the coach admitted, suggested Coutinho could be taking a role in central midfield and leaving his spot for Willian.

"At first, Gabriel Jesus is our starter. We have to concentrate on preparing", Tite said. "The challenge is open on the right back, but Danilo has some advantage now because he has performed well recently", Tite said.
