Airtel denies Jio's charges over Apple Watch 3 service

15 May 2018

"Apple Watch Series 3 service is being offered by Airtel in deliberate and gross violation to the terms and conditions of Unified License", Jio said in the letter.

"Airtel has not set up eSIM provisioning node within India and the node being used to provide Apple Watch Series 3 service is now located out of India in gross violation of the licence terms", Jio wrote in a letter to the DoT on 11 May.

The new post-paid ₹ 199 plan announced by Reliance Jio is expected to hit revenue of competitors marginally and may trigger tariff war in the segment, according to market analysts. Reliance Jio has demanded immediate closure of eSIM services being offered by Airtel. The Apple Watch Series 3 LTE model can connect to cellular networks, but doesn't depend on SIM cards for enabling cellular connectivity. Also, Airtel's launched a new Rs. 219 plan comes with 1.4GB data per data per day or 39.4GB data for 28 days, along with unlimited calls (local and STD), free roaming, 100 SMSes per day, access to Airtel TV app, and free Hello Tunes subscription. "Bharti Airtel is a law abiding and responsible operator".

"We understand that Airtel has not set-up the above referred eSIM provisioning node within India and the node being used to provide Apple Watch Series 3 service is now located out of India in gross violation to the license terms", Jio wrote in the letter. The air provisioning of this eSIM is done by a dedicated network of nodes and they contain user information and other sensitive data. The iPhone and the Apple Watch of the user will share the same number.

"They (Airtel) ccould have easily said the server/node is in India and its a baseless allegation", he suggests. It alleged that Airtel should have carried out Lawful Interception Management (LIM) demonstration before launch of this service "so that national security interests are not compromised in any manner".

DeAngelo Hall set to retire
Upon returning from injury last season, Hall shuttled in and out of the starting lineup at safety, lending support to D.J. DeAngelo Hall, a 14-year NFL veteran, announced this morning that he's made a decision to retire from the league.

We request your good office to take severe action against Bharti and impose the strictest of penalties under the licence. The maximum for a penalty for a breach of such license conditions is ₹50 crore per circle.

If we compare both the plans i.e Airtel 149 plan and Jio 149 plan then Jio plan is best if two things.

Airtel though has denied Jio's accusations, saying it is "another frivolous complaint by a desperate operator, whose sole aim appears to have a monopoly over everything that they do".

It went on to clarify the security of it's hosting in the country. "There is no CDR (call detail record) or KYC (know your customer), or any private information, outside the country and lawful interception is within India", one of the company representatives said.

Both Airtel and Jio have been sharing a rivalry in the telecom sector and this latest spat, for a fact, is keen at intensifying the one-upping game further.
