Margot Kidder's sister says the Canadian-born actress shared a courageous spirit with Lois Lane, the tough-as-nails journalist she played on screen. She won an Emmy in 2015 for her role as Mrs. Worthington in R.L. Stan's The Haunting Hour and guest-starred on television shows including Smallville, Brothers & Sisters and The L Word. Kidder's depiction of the plucky and tenacious reporter became the standard for the role, with several women following in her footsteps over the years including Teri Hatcher (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), and most recently, Amy Adams (Man of Steel).
Famous for her smoky voice and for portraying smart, indomitable characters, Kidder also struggled with addiction and bipolar disorder for much of her life.
In 1990, Ms. Kidder suffered a spinal injury in a minor vehicle accident and she ended up in debt as a result.
"It introduced some elements that are now genre tropes and she's fantastic in it", comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani said on Twitter Monday. The last listed appearance of any kind came in an apparently independent film that was released a year ago.

The reactions by fellow Lois Lane actresses continued when Dana Delany, who's voiced Lois Lane is a slew of movies and shows, posted on social media to simply say, "Iconic Lois", with a broken heart emoji.
I know this because I made such a joke when I said I was glad Colin Farrell checked himself into rehab "before he relapses and goes all Margot Kidder in the Hollywood Hills".
