Pacquiao responds to Roach situation: 'I have not made my final decision'

17 April 2018

The 39-year-old Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) is in the twilight of his career, with four losses in his last nine bouts and a noticeable decrease in the hand speed that made him an incredible fighter.

This when Pacquiao came in as a late substitute to sensationally knock out Ledwaba and dethroned him of his IBF super bantamweight crown to announce his arrival at the world stage and start a run with Roach that would be a benchmark for one of the longest trainer-boxer relationship.

"I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't hurt that he didn't contact me personally about his decision", he said, "but the great times we enjoyed together far outweigh that".

"Contrary to statements which I personally did not make that are circulating in the media", Pacquaio said, "I have not made my final decision who will be my head trainer for my 14 July fight [in Kuala Lumpur] with Matthysse". And Roach, for the first time since Pacquiao's 2001 United States debut, will not be in his corner. Sunday's tweet, however, made clear that "my (Pacquiao's) advisor Mike Koncz has been in contact with Freddie's people to keep them informed". I wouldn't trade any of it. Roach had been in Pacquiao's corner for 34 consecutive fights since his USA debut in 2001.

Roach trained Pacquiao (39-4, 36 KOs) for 15 years, helping the Filipino become one of boxing's most accomplished fighters and one of its biggest draws.

The runner was convinced the 2018 Boston Marathon was going to be her swan song - a final chance to win the 26.2-mile race. Michigan's Desiree Linden won the 2018 Boston Marathon on Monday, becoming the first American woman to do so since 1985.

Boxing often resembles a fairground carousel, with its many participants getting on and off with dizzying frequency.

"This is the fight I have always wanted".

Matthyse will be accompanied by promoter Oscar Dela Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions when he arrives in the country on Wednesday for the start of the two-city press tour that will also take both fighters to Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has yet to be given his walking papers, eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao said yesterday in his social media account. "Inside the boxing ring and the political ring, I wish Manny nothing but the best". "I don't know if he was upset with me or what".
