The Premier League champions' season in stats

16 April 2018

Sterling put in an impressive display as City breezed past Tottenham 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday in what turned out to be a Premier League title-clinching win following Manchester United's surprise defeat to West Brom on Sunday.

Winning the title with five matches to go makes City the joint earliest champions in the Premier League era - emulating the achievement of the 2000-01 Manchester United team, their next-door rivals.

Along the way, they beat Liverpool 5-0, Watford 6-0, Crystal Palace 5-0, Stoke City 7-2, Arsenal 3-1, Manchester United 2-1, Swansea City 4-0, Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 and Bournemouth 4-0 before eventually drawing 0-0 with Palace on New Year's Eve.

City are 16 points clear of second placed United, who can only take a maximum of 15 points from their remaining five games. How about that taxi driver who isn't EVEN LOOKING at where he's going despite the fact that there are literally THOUSANDS of people in that street.

"I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy".

United have scored a full 30 goals fewer than City this season and Mourinho has not managed to get his side to click, despite being able to bring on further talent such as Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

West Brom had lost eight of their previous nine games and last won on January 13.

Here's what pundits, managers and players have said after City won the league...

I want to see how we react now next season.

"The amount of goals, chances and points, to do that in the Premier League, with the contenders we have, is because the players are so good".

"I think we share one thing - he's been able to transfer to the team that hunger and desire to never be satisfied". It was always a matter of when rather than if City would be champions after they led the way for most of the season.

The club captain, a solid figure in centre of the team's defence, and also the official Club "Player of the Year" for four consecutive seasons, Dunne was a central figure in the pre-ADUG Man City team.

"The first one was special but this one is perhaps the one I'm most proud of. The last week was tough for us", Guardiola said.

"They won because they were the best team, they lost only a few points". Guardiola had planned a day of golf with his son Marius on Sunday, so the Spaniard might have learned of his first Premier League while on the course.
