Shenmue I & II Getting Remastered For PlayStation 4, Xbox One & PC

16 April 2018

Earlier today, Sega confirmed that a Shenmue I & II bundle will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2018.

In the meantime though, Sega will be re-releasing Shenmue 1 and 2 on PC and current generation consoles. It would make sense to see it drop at least a few months before the third chapter, which is also slated by the end of the year. Sega is describing the re-release as the "definitive version" and promises the "best Shenmue experience to date".

The first ever Shenmue title had arrived back in 1999, and had held the distinction of being the most expensive video game ever to have been produced. Its sequel followed in 2001, although it was only released on Dreamcast in Europe and Japan; the game was later ported to the original Xbox in 2002.

Rising Star 2: Hemant Brijwasi takes home winner's trophy
However, Rohanpreet edged out his competitor from Kerala with a whisker, setting up a target of 78 per cent for Hemant Brijwasi. In order to make the game more lively, host Ravi Dubey played and organized a game which was quite amusing and entertaining.

Shenmue was one of the first games with a persistent open world, day/night and NPC cycles, and weather changes.

While the games haven't been fully remastered from the ground-up as such, players will still be able to enjoy a bunch of new features, including a revamped user interface, modern control options, English and Japanese voice acting, and fully scalable screen resolution.

So it isn't a remake and it would be hard to define them even remasters, which indeed is not the terms used by the publisher, and "HD" it's not even mentioned nor on the box art neither in the press releases delivered thus far.
