Flash flood watch issued for much of West Virginia

16 April 2018

Bands of showers and thunderstorms could produce 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher totals along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge.

The National Weather service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the area from 12 Noon Sunday through Sunday evening. Monitor and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued on Sunday.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A flash flood watch means that conditions are present that could lead to flash flooding.

Additional rainfall of up to 1 inch is expected over parts of the area.
