Comey says Trump morally unfit to be president

16 April 2018

"I don't know", Comey said in the ABC News interview when asked whether Trump has been "compromised" by the Russians. "He is morally unfit to be president".

Trump fired Comey last May and has publicly criticized him since then, but not to this extent. This president is not able to do that. Trump said on Twitter early Sunday.

"I started to tell him about the allegation was that he had been involved with prostitutes in a hotel in Moscow in 2013", Comey says in the clip.

'These are more words I never thought I'd utter about a president of the United States, but it's possible, ' Mr Comey said. "People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values".

He said he knows that's a "stunning" possibility and something that he never thought he'd say about a president of the United States.

The former federal prosecutor pointed to how Trump "talks about and treats women like they're pieces of meat" and "lies constantly about matters big and small and insists the American people believe it".

In a separate interview with USA Today, Comey - in a reference to salacious allegations contained in an unverified dossier created by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele - said it is hard "to explain some things without at least leaving your mind open" to the possibility that such compromising information exists.

The attacks come hours before Comey's interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos was scheduled to air Sunday night.

Later in the day, Comey wrote on Twitter that his book, "A Higher Loyalty", is about "ethical leadership".

4 elephants run over by speeding train, died on spot
Four elephants died after they were ramped by a goods train near Telidihi Village in Odisha's Jharsuguda on Monday morning. The incident caused disruption in the movement of trains in the section that comes under South-Eastern Railway.

The White House has denied that Trump ever encouraged Comey to end an investigation into former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, an encounter that the fired FBI director memorialized in private notes that he later described to Congress. Trump has also accused Comey of leaking information by authorizing a friend to share with journalists details of the discussion about Flynn.

In his testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee a year ago, Comey said he believes the President asked him to "drop any investigation of Flynn", a reference to former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"I did not go into the business about people peeing on each other", he said.

He added: "But you can not have, as president of the United States, someone who does not reflect the values that I believe Republicans treasure and Democrats treasure and Independents treasure".

Comey says Steele's track record was why he felt it "was important that we try to understand [the dossier], and see what could we verify, what could we rule in or rule out".

Still, he says it strikes him as unlikely, but something that he can't say without high confidence.

Asked to address the fierce criticism he received for the move, Mr. Comey said Americans would benefit from stepping into his shoes and considering the options he had. "So I turn to them and I said, 'Someone put a lot of work into that'". Comey seems likely to be the star witness in any obstruction of justice case that might be brought against the President by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. And that me caught me so much by surprise I actually let out an audible laugh and- 'cause it was just one of those- I was startled by it'.

"He asked for my loyalty personally as the F.B.I. director".

"The goal was - and one of the mistakes I made - is I don't know what it would be. His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!"
