15 March 2018

The 2GB model with 16GB storage is priced at Rs. 7999, while the 3GB RAM variant with 32GB expandable internal storage is available at a budget-friendly price of Rs. 8999. Further, customers will get 90 percent discount on their first Kindle eBooks purchase (up to Rs. 400). The most striking aspect of the Redmi 5 is the fact that it's the most affordable bezel-less phone with an 18:9 aspect ratio in the Indian market right now. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant is only Rs. 1000 less than the Redmi Note 5, which has a bigger and higher-resolution display and a bigger battery. Xiaomi will continue with flash sale model for the Redmi 5 as well. To recall, the brand introduced the Lake Blue colour option of the Redmi 5A in China previous year.

The rear side offers a dual camera comprising of 12MP sensors with 5-element lens and f/2.2 aperture.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 450 processor which is based on 14nmFinFET process and is optimised for longer-battery life. The Redmi 5 will also be available in 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version for Rs 8,999. Sensors on board the Redmi 5 include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor and an infrared blaster. After months of rigorous testing on all the compatible phones, Xiaomi has finally unveiled the stable version MIUI 9 for all the device that it had promised.

More than five years after its death, we continue to mourn the game development branch of LucasArts, the company responsible for numerous best Star Wars games of the '90s and '00s.

The HD+ resolution means that the display won't match the Redmi Note 5 or the Redmi Note 5 Pro in terms of clarity as they have Full HD+ displays, but it's hard to complain about the display resolution considering the price of the device. There are also enhancements to the earpiece, including an additional waterproof layer, that helps to protect the Redmi 5 from sweat and dust. The Redmi 4 is powered by a Qualcomm 435 octa-core processor, with a maximum clock speed of 1.4GHz, and an Adreno 505 GPU. The selfie camera also provides support for selfie countdown and face recognition technologies.

The Redmi 5 comes with upgraded rear and front cameras as well. On the part of connectivity, there is 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Our view: The Redmi 5 offers great value for money in the budget price segment. Also, there is a 5-megapixel camera sensor available on the front with an f/2.0 aperture. Redmi 5A has received mostly positive reviews. The handset has a 3000mAh battery and measures 140.4×70.1×8.35mm.
