Partial list of winners in top categories at the Grammys

29 January 2018

U2 appears on screen as they perform "Get Out of Your Own Way" via satellite at the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, in NY.

Most dramatically, his "24K Magic" had no business topping three far superior offerings - Jay-Z's "4:44", Lorde's "Melodrama" and, especially, Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN." - for Album of the Year. The song would make history as the first hip-hop track to win the category, though there's very little actual rapping, making it poppy enough not to seem like an outlier. "And I think if we did that more often, a lot of these problems would be non-existent", she said.

But heavyweights Foo Fighters prevailed with their Run netting Best Rock Song while Alessia Cara cemented her status as a new voice to watch out for with her Best New Artist gong.

For example, "24K Magic" won record of the year.

The industry seized on its annual gala to rally on behalf of the growing women's movement against sexual harassment, with pop singer Kesha delivering a fierce performance about her own abuse story.

Bruno Mars, 32, and Cardi B, 25, turned up the volume at the 2018 Grammy Awards on January 28 in New York City!

Later in the powerful performance, Lamar rapped his lyrics to "D.N.A." in a jaw-dropping finale.

Lamar opened the televised gala with a frenetic show, spitting out his verses as he was joined by U2 frontman Bono amid a sea of kung fu dancers who later fell to the ground as if struck by bullets.

Comedian Kevin Hart coming back to Buffalo
Philadelphia-born Kevin Hart began his career by winning several amateur comedy competitions in clubs throughout New England. Comedian and actor Kevin Hart has added State College to his list of 2018 Irresponsible stand-up comedy tour stops.

After the performance, host James Corden gave brief remarks before handing the show over to Lady Gaga.

Interrupting the performance was a comedic interlude or two from Dave Chappelle, who joked, "The only thing more frightening than watching a black man being honest in America, is being an honest black man in America". Rapper Jay-Z, who was leading the nomination pack with eight nods this time, went back empty-handed, while Mars bagged seven honours at the Madison Square Garden here on Sunday night.

Latin global dance hit "Despacito" also failed to take home a Grammy despite smashing sales records past year.

The show also featured a somber performance of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" by country artists Maren, Eric Church and the Osborne Brothers.

Kendrick Lamar kicked off the 60th annual Grammy Awards with a bang.

"This song is about me finding peace in the fact that I can't control everything - because trying to control everyone was killing me", she wrote a year ago.

Chris Stapleton was the main face among the Country winners; his second album "From A Room: Volume 1" earned him Best Country Album, with both singles "Either Way" and "Broken Halos" scooping Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song respectively.
