Vikings activate QB Sam Bradford off injured reserve for Sunday's playoff game

14 January 2018

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford is back on the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's National Football League division round playoff against the New Orleans Saints.

Mike Zimmer's squad is no stranger to accomplishing the impossible in 2017, either. Compiling game outcomes and FiveThirtyEight's Elo ratings, writers Jeff Hargarten and MaryJo Webster revealed that among the teams left in the current postseason, no one has lost more playoff games they were predicted to win since 1966 than - wait for it - the Vikings. Bradford, who completed 27 of his 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' season-opening win over New Orleans, twisted his left knee in the game, and missed the team's next three games before making a truncated return on October 9 against the Bears.

Keenum went 11-3 as a starter and played in one other game, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns with seven interceptions. Bridgewater's only action since suffering a torn left ACL in August 2016 has been two series in the fourth quarter of a 34-7 win over Cincinnati on December 17.

Malkin has big day as Penguins beat Red Wings 4-1
Defensively, the Detroit Red Wings are allowing 3.1 goals per game and are killing 81.3 percent of their opponents power plays. With the Blackhawks being as inconsistent as they have been all season, every game and every point has been so precious.

Case Keenum will start, but the Vikings haven't said whether Bradford or Teddy Bridgewater will be No. 2 on the depth chart.

The Star Tribune has reported that Bridgewater is expected to be the backup, though. Bradford was back for the Bears game, but hobbled around in the first half before being pulled for Keenum. But if they wanted to use the quarterback who beat the Saints in Week 1 in their rematch with New Orleans, they'd be able to do so. Bradford, who had surgeries in 2013 and 2014 to fix a torn left ACL, had arthroscopic surgery November 7 on that knee and was placed on injured reserve the next day. "He's working back in, getting his feet wet. He looks like the old Sam Bradford".
