DACA Deal Or No Deal? Reports Are Mixed

14 January 2018

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters Tuesday that immigration will be handled "separately from the spending negotiation" on "a bill the president is willing to sign".

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders agreed.

A major bipartisan effort to resolve the fate of hundreds of thousands of young unauthorized immigrants was underway on Thursday, after a group of six Republican and Democratic senators said they reached an "agreement in principle" that was quickly shot down by the White House.

Democrats are demanding protection for undocumented immigrants brought to the children, known as "dreamers", as part of a spending bill to keep the federal government open after current funding ends January 19.

LINDSEY GRAHAM: We had a meeting, and I will tell you that I'm hopeful that that meeting will maybe lead to a breakthrough and we get something done. "So we'll be talking to the White House about that and I hope we can move forward with it, it's the only game in town".

The bill also includes a long-term plan for DACA recipients that outlines a potential path to citizenship while not necessarily favoring DACA recipients over other immigrants seeking citizenship.

One of the Democratic senators at the meeting, Dick Durbin of IL, confirmed on Twitter that Trump used the term "shithole". After an afternoon meeting with a group working on the deal, Flake emerged saying they "are closer".

Arizona would find a better offensive rhythm in this half, compared to their first half against the Beavers just a few days ago. Trier put in 21 points against Oregon State and has a team-high eight games with 20 or more points this season for Arizona.

Earlier in the day, Mr Trump took aim at the country's libel laws, describing them as a "sham" and a "disgrace".

"It's a good step forward for the people whose DACA permits have been expiring but there's still a long way for us to fight", said Luna, 21, of San Jose who was brought to the USA illegally from Mexico as a 1-year-old. Bob Menendez and Michael Bennet. "President Trump is committed to the rule of law, and will work with members of both parties to reach a permanent solution that corrects the unconstitutional actions taken by the last administration".

In 2012, the Obama era program was designed for foreigners, commonly known as Dreamers. Frankly since a large number of illegal immigrants enter under perfectly legal visas and simply overstay their welcome, reform of that system would be a far more fruitful avenue to pursue.

A group of US Republican lawmakers has unveiled the details of an immigration bill that has the support of President Donald Trump.

Trump, who met on Wednesday with the Norwegian prime minister, said the USA instead should bring in more immigrants from countries like that highly developed Scandinavian nation.

"I don't know what I would go back to", Azua said. That proposal has been strongly opposed by Democrats and many Republicans as a futile waste of money.

Trump's swift rejection shows how hard it will be for Congress to develop a legislative solution to protect some 700,000 young immigrants when Trump ends the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in March. He added that surveillance technology and staffing would also be part of the border security proposals. "I don't get that", said No. 2 Senate Republican John Cornyn of Texas.
