Top Democrat seeks to interview Ivanka Trump in Russian Federation probe

"And that leaves some very important questions unanswered".

He blamed panel chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., for ruling against bringing in certain witnesses, "even when he recused himself" from running the committee's probe. The intelligence panel's practice is not to discuss specific witnesses or its schedule except for public hearings.

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon will be interviewed by a House of Representatives committee investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, a source familiar with the matter says.

Schiff said the committee has interviewed a total of 56 witnesses, less than half of the number of people interviewed by the Senate intelligence committee.

He later apologised for his statements, but the White House refused to accept it, calling his comments "repugnant" and "grotesque".

Ryan responded in a statement: "While Mr. Schiff tries to distract from the serious, bipartisan review that's been underway for almost a year, we will stay focused on following the facts and working to safeguard the upcoming election".

Feinstein, the top Democrat on the panel, released the transcript of Glenn Simpson's interview over the objections of the committee's Republican chairman, Iowa Sen.

Republicans have in turn criticized Democrats for trying to draw out the probe and say there's no clear evidence of ties between Russian Federation and the president, who has repeatedly denied any such collusion. "President Trump makes this strategy manifest clear as day nearly every day on his Twitter feed". And Schiff says the committee needs to press Attorney General Jeff Sessions over key questions he did not answer, including whether the President took steps to hinder the Russian Federation investigation.

And in a unusual attempt to somehow prove he is independent of Russian Federation and President Putin, Trump told reporters, "I am for massive oil and gas and everything else.Putin can't love that". And he says the GOP has not supported efforts to get information from the White House about the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, saying the White House has ignored bipartisan requests while the GOP has done little to pursue it.

Committee Democrats are also seeking records from Deutsche Bank.

"This investigation has gone about 1/4 of the time of the Benghazi investigations", Schiff said, referring to the GOP-led inquiries after the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

Besides Bannon, he said those witnesses would include Trump's daughter Ivanka. But Schiff says that's not enough.

President Trump is sure there was collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 US election - but it wasn't with him or the GOP. He said Republicans have declined to invite many witnesses that would be valuable to the probe.

"It may be necessary for us to (release the names) in future if the majority does shut down the investigation or put it in some kind of hibernation", Schiff warned. The FBI investigations by several committees ramped up after the discovery of several anti-Trump texts between two Justice department employees who had both worked for Mueller.

Trump last July praised his son Donald Trump Jr. and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for their actions in face of the "witch hunt".

"If there's credible information that Ivanka Trump had contact with any participants in that meeting at the time of that meeting".
