Steve Bannon to step down at Breitbart

Last week, Hansen was at a conference in Washington, D.C., when he joked to colleagues about having the same title as the hottest book on the market - Michael Wolff's tell-all tome about U.S. President Donald Trump, titled "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House".

"I don't believe there's any way back for Mr Bannon at this point", White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said on Air Force One.

Wolff's book portrays the 45th president as a leader who doesn't understand the weight of his office and whose competence is questioned by aides.

The move comes days after Bannon reversed course from comments he made about Donald Trump a new book about the Trump presidency by Michael Wolff.

One-time senior strategist Steve Bannon, seeing Haley as a threat to his more nationalist agenda, worked to ensure Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be replaced by CIA Director Mike Pompeo rather than Haley should the Texas oilman quit the State Department, the book claims.

The reference angered the president, who last week lashed out at Bannon, saying he "lost his mind".

Trump tweeted Sunday that the instant bestseller which paints him as disengaged and unstable, with signs of serious memory loss - was a "Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author".

Bannon acknowledged Manafort is "a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate", but said in light of that experience he "should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends".

On Monday, Wolff told MSNBC that in Bannon's comments to him, "Don Jr.'s name come up again and again" and that Bannon's remarks regarding treason and lack of patriotism were "not directed at Manafort, they were directed directly at Don Jr".

"Steve was incredibly helpful on this book, and his insights are penetrating", Wolff said. "So I want to be fair to him, but I also want to be accurate".

Meanwhile, the publisher of "Fire and Fury" said any efforts to suppress the book are "flagrantly unconstitutional".

Now, the man who took considerable credit for President Trump's shocking win in 2016 finds himself cast out - most importantly, from the good graces of Robert and Rebekah Mercer, the billionaire GOP donors who fund Breitbart and a variety of other Bannon-linked ventures.

However, she did not dispute that Wolff had been "seen often" with former adviser Steve Bannon in his White House office. As Larry O'Connor, former editor for Breitbart TV, said, how do you run a website, like Breitbart, when the principles of the conservative movement have all denounced you.
