True, Russian athletes who can prove themselves to be innocent will be allowed to compete in South Korea, but they'll be doing so under a neutral flag with the name "Olympic Athlete from Russia" (OAR).

Founders of Hirsch's, Allan and Margaret Hirsch, had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch at the start of the torch-carrying marathon that will culminate in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics taking place in South Korea from 9 to 25 February.

Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) said it has formed a team made up of 130 medical staff, including 48 doctors, so they could be stationed at treatment centers at the athletes' village, stadiums and training centers for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in Gangwon Province.

"The Olympic Games is a unique opportunity to bring people from around the world together to build camaraderie and cheer for their favourite athletes", said James Carwana, vice president and general manager of Intel Sports Group.

"We know that our goals for any Games are always ambitious", said UK Sport director of performance Chelsea Warr.

Also on Friday, South Korea's unification ministry invited the North to further talks about the Olympics in the truce village of Panmunjom on January 15, a statement said.

The South Korea ambassador His Excellency Joonkook Hwang welcomed the likely participation of neighbours North Korea in the Games.
