Federal Bureau of Investigation knew Las Vegas gunman had big gun stashes, records say

An FBI agent tells a judge in warrant documents made public Friday that Marilou Danley wasn't arrested when she returned to the US from the Philippines days after the October 1 shooting, and that she was cooperating with investigators.

Stephen Paddock's emails were disclosed in affidavits unsealed Friday after several media organizations, including The Associated Press, fought for their release.

Paddock's three-bedroom house in a retirement community in the city of Mesquite was searched twice - first by police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in the hours immediately after Paddock was identified as the shooter.

Warrants also showed that investigators found an email address identified by investigators as Paddock's where he received a message from an account identified as CentralPark4804@gmail.com that read, "for a thrill try out bumpfire ar's with 100 round magazine".

A Nevada judge is due to hear arguments Tuesday about whether Las Vegas police search warrant documents should remain sealed.

That would mean "investigators need to determine who was communicating with him about weapons that were used in the attack", one of the warrants said. Federal authorities said Paddock used "anonymously attributed communications devices", destroyed or concealed digital storage and had at least three cellphones in the hotel suite where he opened fire.

An FBI special agent wrote in one affidavit seeking a search warrant that "the methodical nature of the planning employed by Paddock, coupled with his efforts to undermine the preceding investigation, are factors indicative of a level of sophistication which is commonly found in mass casualty events such as this". Authorities haven't said why they think the 64-year-old high-stakes gambler opened fire from a casino-hotel onto a concert below.

Investigators have said that Paddock meticulously planned his attack and intentionally concealed his actions.

They also show that agents sought the email, Facebook and Instagram accounts of Paddock's girlfriend, Marilou Danley, who was in the Philippines during the October 1 shooting.

The FBI returned to the house a week later for what officials called "redocumenting and rechecking".

The documents also noted that Paddock's girlfriend, Marilou Danely, told investigators that her fingerprints would likely be found on Paddock's ammunition, but she adamantly denied any advance knowledge of the attack, according to the court records.

The FBI document, filed six days after the shooting, says authorities had no evidence suggesting Danley had any criminal involvement in the massacre.

"The investigation has also revealed that Paddock may have been treated for yet unidentified medical conditions", an agent wrote.
