Bentley Bentayga V8 arrives with 550 horsepower

13 January 2018

At the heart of the latest Bentayga model is a new-generation 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine which combines vast power with impressive fuel efficiency.

The 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol engine produces 542bhp and 770Nm of torque, meaning a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 180mph.

Finally, for those interested in fuel economy, the V8 has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 11.4 l/100 km (24.8 mpg UK), with corresponding Carbon dioxide emissions of 260 g/km.

The V8 Bentayga costs from £136,200 (the Bentayga Diesel is £135,800 and the W12 £167,200). That's certainly true with Bentley's Continental GT where the lighter weight of the V-8 over the car's 12-cylinder option (in this case a W-12) makes the handling sharper and more agile.

The petrol V8 model heralds the introduction of carbon-ceramic brakes for the first time on a Bentayga; Bentley claims that these are the most powerful ever fitted to one of its cars, and that the brake discs at the front are the largest ever fitted to a production vehicle at 440mm (17 inches).

Dark Souls Remastered Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch
A few hours later it will be announced that Dark Souls Remastered is also coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. At long last, Nintendo will finally be getting in on the action with Dark Souls Remastered .

Despite that, Bentley calls the Bentayga V8 is "the most sporting guise to date" of its luxury SUV.

Bentley also offers a Bentayga Diesel (also V-8-powered) outside the United States and this model has 429 hp and 664 lb-ft, which sees it hit 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and top out at 168 miles per hour. The 10-piston front brakes measure 440mm in diameter, which is a 40mm increase on the Bentayga's standard steel brakes, the rear carbon ceramic brakes measure 370mm. The auto gets an eight-inch infotainment system that features a 60GB hard drive, while rear-seat passengers can make use of the new Bentley Entertainment Tablet if specified, which is a 10.2-inch Android tablet with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The smaller engine will make the V8 Bentayga cheaper than the flagship W12 model, but still by no means "affordable". There are optional premium sound system available as well with 18 speakers for a total of 1950watts.

Speaking of wheels, the Bentayga will be available with a choice of 11 wheels designs (no, you can't mix and match), including a new 22-inch design finished in black with a polished finish. The same four, five or seven-seat layout as other models can be specified, along with a near-endless combination of trim materials and high-quality leathers.

On the inside, a new wood and leather steering wheel features, as does a gloss carbonfibre trim finish for the doors, centre console and dashboard fascia.
