Rain and sleet Thursday, light snow possible overnight in Houston area

Cold air will take over for the weekend with highs struggle to make it out of the 30s Sunday. Another freeze is expected Friday night, but there'll be no precipitation around by then.

With temperatures dropping below freezing, any lingering wet stretches on roads may freeze, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

The U.S. National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. This means most of the Upstate will see generally a cold rain mixed occasionally with melting snowflakes.

The RPM model is the driest solution with all the rain pushing out into the Gulf by 7am Friday morning. This warning indicates that freezing temperatures are imminent.

With temperatures above freezing and warm ground temperatures, any daytime accumulations should be confined mainly to grassy areas and vehicle tops, rather than roads. Temperatures will drop into the middle 20s. North of I-10 may not have any more moisture, especially after sunrise.
