New arrest in shooting death of 'good Samaritan' Yosif Al-Hasnawi

Police say a man wanted in connection the fatal shooting of a Good Samaritan in Hamilton has been arrested.

Hamilton fraud unit Detective Sgt. Greg Doerr issued a press release late Thursday morning, warning the public that a GoFundMe account, titled "Hamilton Hero Funeral Fundraiser", was launched. However, the donation account has since been taken down and Hamilton Police are looking into the legitimacy of the page. GoFundMe has disabled the account and money is expected to be returned to those who donated, Doerr said.

The prime suspect in the death of a 19-year-old man who was shot dead December 2 while trying to assist an older man who was being harassed has been arrested in Haldimand County. We'd like to hear from you about this or any other stories you think we should know about.

"The Brock community is in shock and deep mourning after the tragic death of 19-year-old Yosif Al-Hasnawi, who died in a shooting incident in Hamilton on the weekend after trying to help someone being accosted on the street", the university said.

Al-Hasnawi was a first-year medical science student at Brock University who had dreams of becoming a doctor one day.

King faces a second-degree murder charge after Al-Haswani was shot on Sanford Avenue North Saturday night. The vigil will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Hamilton police say a female arrested at the same time is charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Police say King may be armed and unsafe.

On Monday, 20-year-old James Anthony Robert Matheson was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder in relation to Al Hasnawi's death.
