A 19-year-old was fatally shot by police late Sunday night after the first officer responding to a call for "possible gunshots" fired at a vehicle seen leaving the scene, the DA probing the shooting said. Fall River Police say the shooting and arrests are related.
Officers were called to a disturbance on Riggenbach Road near Airport Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. Sunday. The caller told police a green hatchback vehicle was smoking and reported hearing bangs that sounded like gunshots.
About three hours later, officers responded to a disturbance at nearby Charlton Memorial Hospital. The caller was unsure if it was a crash or a fight.
The office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn said on Monday that officers observed "a number of vehicles leaving the area" when they initially approached the intersection.

Meanwhile, the NFF has disclosed that Russia-based Bryan Idowu on Saturday night joined up with the rest of the Super Eagles squad after they arrived in Krasnodar, Russia .
One relative, Jose Ruiz-Hernandez, 42, was also charged with assault and battery on a police officer, records show.
Five people were arrested at the hospital where Ruiz-Barreto was pronounced dead.
Both incidents remain under investigation. The five individuals were scheduled to be arraigned at Fall River District Court on Monday.
At the courthouse, members of Ruiz-Barreto's family cried and held each other, telling NBC Boston that the teen's hands were up during the incident when he was shot by police.
