If they take law in their hands, then they will be punished according to the law.

No case has been registered in connection with the violence.

Sati Padmavati, on whose life the movie is based, is revered as goddess in many parts of Rajasthan. As of now the screening of the trailer has been stopped at the theatre. Activits of the Sena today also submitted a memorandum to the manager of the cinema hall demanding it to stop the screening of trailer.

Directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie is an attempt to tarnish the rich heritage and culture of the erstwhile Rajputana, he said.

Bhansali, also the director of "Padmavati", had been assaulted by the activists of the Karni Sena, another Rajput outfit, during the shooting of the film in Jaipur in January. The Rajput Karni Sena is claiming that Padmavati insults the Rajput community and is a distortion of history, which "hurts their religious sentiments".

The outrage over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmavati intensified on Tuesday with not only Rajputs but Brahmins, Vaishyas, OBCs and Muslim communities rallying together to oppose the film for insulting Hindus and warning of violence if it is released. In the film, Deepika Padukone will play the role of Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor will play the Rajput king, Ratan Singh, and Ranveer will be seen as Alauddin Khilji. Their consideration is only commercial."The damage at the multiplex after it was vandalised by Karni Sena in Kota". What have we gotten ourselves into?

Deepika's comments did not go down well with BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

A Rajput outfit on Monday warned that it would not allow upcoming Hindi film "Padmavati" to be screened in Karnataka, claiming that the film distorted historical facts and portrayed royal characters of yore in a poor light.

The Hindi film industry has come out in support of the period drama criticising the protest.
